No sound or no subtitles in IPTV — the fix

Sound and subtitle problems are usually a player setting or an audio format the device does not support, and they are fixed from the playback menu itself.

The usual causes

Another audio track

Some channels and films carry more than one audio track (languages or formats).

An unsupported format

Formats such as AC3/Dolby may not be supported by the player or device.

Subtitles not turned on

Subtitles in VOD films have to be chosen from the playback menu.

The fix, step by step

  1. 1

    Change the audio track

During playback open the options (Audio / Track) and choose another track.

  2. 2

    Change the internal player

In many apps: Settings › Player › choose another player (such as VLC or ExoPlayer).

  3. 3

    Turn on subtitles

During the film open Subtitles and choose the language if it is available for that title.

  4. 4

    Check the TV’s sound settings

Try turning off options such as Passthrough or switching the output format to PCM.
